Have you ever had the experience when you are in a crowded room and someones cell phone rings and quiet a few people look at their phones thinking it could be theirs? This is mainly because of the common ring tones that phones have. Ringtones are the sound produced by the phone alerting the user about the incoming call.

A few Samsung phones have software which allows the user to compose a specific tune on the phone itself and then use it as a ringtone. Some ringtones can be downloaded directly to the phone if it is WAP compatible. However, to add ringtones to some phones, the user needs to send a ringtone code to the provider and the user will receive a message with the ringtone. This message must be saved on the phone, after which the user can use that particular ringtone.
A few portals offer free ringtones to customers. Some of these ringtones are specific to the Samsung brand of phones. The user need not pay anything to the Web site, though. He could simply download the ringtone using a WAP enabled phone or send a text message with the ringtone code and the ringtone will be sent via SMS text message service.
By making ringtones brand and phone specific, Samsung has ensured that the ringtones cannot be copied or played on any other phone. Since the ringtones are free, it tempts the user to visit the Web site often and creating a better brand value for Samsung.
